Dear PS 1 Community,
This week is Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week. We at PS 1 have the VERY best teachers and staff and we are grateful to that they are a part of the PS 1 community. They are truly appreciated, this week and every week!
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the parents who worked so hard to make Field Day a success. The students had a wonderful time. Special thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Chipura, and Mrs. Daly for organizing the event and working ALL day.
This year every single child in every grade is fortunate to have a hands-on experience in the arts. This is due in large part to the efforts of our parent volunteers. We couldn’t have done it without them. Special thanks to Mrs. Helf for organizing this and for ALWAYS being here to help our children. She has given so much of her time to our school and our children (and Mr. Helf’s time too!). We couldn’t have done it without her.
There is a famous book that says, “It Takes a Village to Raise a Child”. We at PS 1 know that to be true.

Did you know that good attendance and good grades go together? It’s hard to do your best in school if you are absent too much, come in late or go home early. Of course if you are really sick you should stay home, but if you aren’t don’t stay home. Vacations are for vacation time, not school time. These practices for good attendance will help you later in life too when you have a job.
At PS 1 we are setting a goal of 98% attendance this year. All classes with 100% each week will get an award and an extra gym period. The class with the best attendance at the end of the year will get their choice of a pizza or ice cream party .
So help your class win. Come to school, stay in school, do your best!

If you have any questions about our after school program please refer to the United Activities (UAU) web site. This site will provide you with general information, fees and applications. The UAU after school program will begin on September 13, for all students in grades 1-5 and on Tuesday September 14 for Kindergarten students.
